ABOUT SMART PALACE

Reinterpreting cultural knowledge through curatorial thinking.

Supported by the University Grants Committee’s Teaching Development and Language Enhancement Grant (TDLEG), the project “Palace Museum@AI Era: Think Like a Curator” is organised by the Chinese Language Enhancement Programme at HKU’s School of Chinese. It responds to the growing convergence of artificial intelligence and human intelligence, encouraging students to reinterpret traditional cultural knowledge through technological innovation.

Project goals

  1. Enrich the learning experience

Museum visits and immersive activities take learning beyond the classroom and bring students closer to history and culture. Reflection reports deepen the experience.

  2. Build an online learning platform

Museum experts and scholars share insights through online and in-person talks on court culture, conservation and curatorial practice.

  3. Develop a cultural knowledge database

Students expand a digital knowledge base and help develop assessment materials, supporting the integration and transmission of cultural resources.

  4. Encourage independent and collaborative learning

The bilingual project strengthens professional communication in Chinese and English, teamwork and independent inquiry.
